Sculptures, Wallpainting & Flags »Artist Takeover« at Potsdamer Platz
I'm so excited to share my artist takeover at Potsdamer Platz, which is one of the most visited places in Berlin! My takeover includes sculptures, hoardings, flags, and animations. At Potsdamer Platz you can feel the pulse of Berlin in the 1920s. It was the busiest hub in Europe, where cars, suburban trains, subways and pedestrians crossed. It became the center of bourgeois entertainment. At the takeover I wanted to take this as an inspiration and transfer this feeling into a modern, abstract and bold way.
The dachshund is a flâneur of a special kind. His movements through the city seem timeless and unchanged.
The flags symbolize the diversity of the cityscape and the people who live in it. People who rush by, pause briefly on a bench, take a leisurely walk or go shopping. They characterize the lively and vibrant atmosphere of the place.
MR AND MRS BIG
Mr and Mrs Big’s surreal size is reminiscent of a monument of the past. They are abstract and modernized interpretation of the pulsating life at Potsdamer Platz in the 20s, larger-than-life figures of the past and present.
LILY, BILLY AND BIRDIE
Lily and Billy are in dialogue with each other. Viewers of the promenade and amusement mile. As voyeurs, they marvel at the events, the scenery and are themselves a part of it. Birdie is just as much an integral part of the streetscape as the people themselves. Due to the oversized and graphic representation, they look surreal and give the viewer the feeling of becoming a part of the scene up close.
This treeseatings and tunnel mural is inspired by the anonymous, bustling atmosphere then and now at Potsdamer Platz.
